At the heart of SRAC’s mission is creating the next generation of Artists and Arts Patrons while ensuring that young people have the opportunity to learn the basic skills (math, language arts, history, and science) through interdisciplinary arts instruction taught by area professional artists.

SRAC’s Arts in Education Programs have been nationally recognized for the depth and breadth of excellent programming that spans “in school” Artists Residencies and Seminars, After School Academic Instruction through the Arts, and the annual culminating CELEBRATE EDUCATION event for Caddo and Bossier parish schools – the ArtBreak Festival.

School Tours

Exhibit-based School tours are 2-hour Artful educational experiences that center on a current artspace exhibit.  Your school group will be divided evenly.   One half of the group will tour the featured exhibit.  The other half of the school group will be led by one or more of our cadre of professional Artists who will participate in an Artful activity that is full of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math.  (A 15:1 ratio of student to artist is maintained.)   The activities are created to reference and connect with the featured Art exhibit while highlighting age/grade appropriate Science, Technology Engineering and Math concepts!

“Art-spirational” School tours are customized school learning experiences! These experiences have ranged from one to four hours!  With these experiences, our Arts in Education Manager works with the teacher to design a specific set of activities to meet the needs as outlined by the teacher or group.  For example,

  • AP English students from Captain Shreve had 4 hour Art-Inspired Writing session which included a mini art appreciation lesson, walking public Art Tour, creative writing and peer editing session.

  • Claiborne Elementary students celebrated African American history month through dance, culinary arts and fine arts!

Cost is $8 per student.  There is no cost for chaperons!  Caddo Parish School District Title I School discount available for qualified schools!  All exhibits toured by students are age and grade appropriate.
