About Us
Like yeast to bread, spark to flame, the Shreveport Regional Arts Council is the catalyst for arts development in Northwest Louisiana. SRAC nurtures, produces, promotes, and services the arts; educates and provides broad and diverse community access to the arts.
SRAC serves as the official arts arm of the city of Shreveport and the state of Louisiana for Northwest Louisiana, operating by contract with both entities. SRAC staff members provide technical assistance and annually distribute $525,000 in City of Shreveport and State of Louisiana funds to arts organizations and artists.
The Shreveport Regional Arts Council was founded in 1976, as the "arts arm" for the City of Shreveport with the purpose of developing, nurturing, producing, presenting, promoting, and educating the public about all disciplines of art, while ensuring access to the arts for people who would not ordinarily receive programs and services.
SRAC's programs are predicated upon the fact that arts audiences and patrons are "molded" from the earliest years, and therefore, Arts In Education programs form the foundation for SRAC's outreach. SRAC's services are founded on the premise that a healthy community depends upon a thriving arts community wherein artists and arts organizations spur creativity among citizens and visitors.
SRAC's partnerships are developed through Community Planning and a belief that the arts community must ask, not what the city can do for the arts, but what can the arts do for the city (to humbly paraphrase President John F. Kennedy). SRAC's outreach efforts are based upon the fact that all people deserve access to the highest quality arts programs, and that it is SRAC's core obligation to ensure accessibility by targeting those groups that cannot access the arts through ordinary means.
